Kuala Lumpur: CIMB-Principal Asset Management Berhad recently declared income distributions for 12 unit trust funds: 4 money market funds, 4 fixed income funds, 3 balanced funds, and 1 equity fund for the period ended December 2008. The money market funds are CIMB-Principal Xcess Income Fund, CIMB-Principal Xcess Cash Fund, CIMB Islamic Money Market Fund, and CIMB-Principal Money Market Fund. The fixed income funds are CIMB Islamic Short Term Sukuk Fund, CIMB-Principal Strategic Bond Fund, CIMB-Principal Institutional Bond Fund 2, and CIMB-Principal Bond Fund. The balanced funds are CIMB-Principal Income Plus Balanced Fund, CIMB Islamic Balanced Growth Fund and CIMB-Principal Balanced Fund. The equity fund is CIMB-Principal Equity Aggressive Fund 1.
John Campbell Tupling, Chief Executive of CIMB-Principal, said: “The ability of these funds to pay out distributions are a testament to our fund management abilities given the tough market over the last half of 2008. Our fund managers will continuously strive for performance and achieve regular income payouts for our investors. At the same time, investors need to focus on their long term financial goals and to take the opportunity to accumulate steadily over the coming year as prices of all assets have corrected.”
CIMB Islamic Short Term Sukuk Fund gave a gross distribution of 0.28 sen per unit, or a distribution yield of 0.28%. This Shariah-compliant fund offers investors exposure to an income-yielding liquid investment that is usually less volatile than normal bond funds.
The Company has also declared a gross distribution for CIMB-Principal Strategic Bond Fund, CIMB-Principal Institutional Bond Fund 2 and CIMB Principal Bond Fund. They will pay gross distributions of 5.95 sen, 3.78 sen and 5.55 sen per unit respectively.
Meanwhile, CIMB-Principal Equity Aggressive Fund 1 declared a gross distribution of 5.0 sen per unit. This fund aims for long term capital growth by investing principally in equities.
CIMB-Principal Xcess Income Fund, which mainly invests in short-term money market instruments, generated a return of 9.65% as at 30 November 2008 since it was first launched in April 2006. It declared a gross distribution of 0.10 sen per unit for 31 December 2008. Meanwhile, the CIMB-Principal Xcess Cash Fund declared a gross distribution of 0.89 sen per unit which amounts to a distribution yield of 0.88%.
Investors received a gross distribution of 0.19 sen and 0.24 sen for both CIMB Islamic Money Market Fund and CIMB-Principal Money Market Fund. These money market funds aim to provide investors with liquidity and regular income, while maintaining capital stability.
CIMB-Principal Income Plus Balanced Fund declared a gross income distribution of 0.54 sen per unit, which translates into a distribution yield of 1.54%. This fund is currently ranked in the 1st Quartile as at 26 December year to date. Meanwhile, the CIMB Islamic Balanced Growth Fund declared a gross distribution of 2.77 sen and shown a higher distribution yield of 3.91%.
Also, the CIMB-Principal Balanced Fund which invests in a diversified mix of Malaysian assets, has declared a gross distribution of 2.5 sen per unit or a distribution yield of 4.58%.
